We all have our favorite parts we like to use. When designing embedded systems we take a step back and make sure the system requirements go together. From there we bring the sensors and processors together that make your design work.
Different devices require different microcontrollers (MCUs). We have a variety of platforms that we use. Some microcontrollers we have used in the past are the TI MSP430, Microchip PIC, Analog Devices BlackFin and a host of ARM Cortex-M. It all depends on what your needs are? Do you need lots of signal processing? Do you need USB? Precision analog? Lots of storage space for data? Along with the initial design we do power profiling to find how to optimize your design.
